Redirect Creator Help

Redirect Creator is an important tool when multiple reflectors are used to deliver video to remote locations via a unified URL.  The current version supports up to 10 redirect locations (any number is possible, contact info@videoalive.com for more information).

While you can certainly enter a unique video streaming URL for each reflected stream, it is often necessary to use the same URL to view live video no matter where the viewer is located.  For example, VBPresenter allows the entry of only one viewing URL.  Redirect Creator provides a unified viewing URL that delivers a different video depending on your location (your network address).

Setup and Operation

First, you must know the network segment of each potential remote location.  Redirect Creator comes with a utility called "ipcheck.asp" to help you discover or confirm remote network addresses.  Simply copy this file to your IIS web server and have one person at each remote location open it in a web browser.  This will display the network address for each location.

Next, enter this network address under "Network Segment" in the Redirect Creator.  For each entry, enter the video viewing URL for that network.

For example, the computers served by network "72.14.195.67" will receive video from "197.168.1.7/vbrickvideo1". The computers served by network "63.246.201.1" will receive video from "64.251.63.241/vbrick1", etc.

Note that the software can match just the first octet, the first two octets, or the first three octets of the network address.  For example, if matching three octets, then any computer served by 72.14.195.xxx will receive the video from 192.168.1.7/vbrickvideo1.  If matching two octets, then any computer served by 72.14.xxx.xxx will receive the video from 192.168.1.7/vbrickvideo1, etc.  This matching feature allows you serve multiple subnets if desired.

A default Video URL is provided: if none of the Network Segment entries match, then the default Video URL will be used.

When all entries are complete, enter the path and file name to save your redirect file (e.g. "redirect.asp").  Simply copy this file to your web server.

The path to this file represents your dynamic redirect and all viewers should point their player to this file (e.g. http://yourWebServer/Folder/redirect.asp").  For example, you would point Windows Media to http://YourWebServer/Folder/redirect.asp.
